How the calculator works

How an accelerator works

An accelerator raises the commission rate once the rep passes quota. The higher rate is often the base rate times a multiplier, e.g. 1.5 × 8% = 12%.

With 8% up to a quota of DKK 350,000 and 12% above, DKK 420,000 in sales gives 28,000 + 8,400 = DKK 36,400. That is DKK 2,800 more than 8% of all sales.

If the higher rate applies to all sales once quota is reached, it becomes 420,000 × 12% = DKK 50,400. That model jumps sharply at 100%. A cap sets an upper limit on the payout for the period.

Frequently asked questions

What is a commission accelerator?

A higher commission rate on sales above quota. It rewards reps who overperform and makes it worth pushing on after 100%.

What is a typical multiplier?

Many plans use 1.5 to 2 times the base rate above quota. The right level depends on margins and how realistic the quota is.

Should the higher rate apply to all sales?

It is a strong push close to quota, but it also creates a jump that can tempt reps to move deals. A higher rate only on sales above quota is easier to manage.

When does a cap make sense?

When one large deal could create a payout out of proportion to the effort. A cap should be high enough not to hold back the best reps.
