Holiday pay on commission calculator

Calculate the compensation for commission a rep loses by taking holiday under the Danish Holiday Act. Choose 12.5% of last year’s commission or an average per working day, and see each step.

How the calculator works

How the compensation is calculated

With paid holiday, a salaried rep is entitled to compensation for the commission lost because of the holiday (ferieloven § 17(1)). With holiday allowance it is 12.5% of the commission lost (§ 19(1)). The law has no fixed formula.

With the 12.5% method, 12.5% of last year’s commission covers a full holiday year of 25 days. With DKK 168,000 in commission that is DKK 21,000, DKK 840 per holiday day and DKK 12,600 for 15 days. Danish courts have accepted this model.

With the average method it is 168,000 / 12 / 21.67 = DKK 646.05 per working day and DKK 9,691 for 15 days. Commission earned during the holiday reduces the loss. Choose a method and write it into the agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Do you get holiday pay on commission in Denmark?

Yes, but only on the commission lost because of the holiday. With paid holiday you get compensation (§ 17). With holiday allowance it is 12.5% of the commission lost (§ 19).

Which method should we use?

12.5% of last year’s commission has been accepted by the Danish Supreme Court and the Maritime and Commercial High Court. An average over a reference period is also an option. Pick one and use it for everyone.

What about the 1% holiday supplement?

The supplement follows the same rules as holiday allowance (§ 18). How commission counts in the base should be in the agreement. The calculator only shows the supplement on fixed salary.

Is this legal advice?

No. It is general guidance. Check the collective agreement and contract, and ask your payroll provider or lawyer if in doubt.
