Can you track commission in Pipedrive?
Yes, but only simple commission. Pipedrive has no built-in commission feature. A formula field can multiply the deal value by a rate, and Insights can total the result by rep. Formula fields need Premium or higher and only support add, subtract, multiply, divide and percent, so tiers, splits, clawbacks and payroll files have to live outside Pipedrive.
This guide is for teams that export a deal list from Pipedrive and calculate commission in a spreadsheet today. You get an overview of what Pipedrive actually offers, a step-by-step flat-rate setup and an honest look at where it stops.
What Pipedrive offers today (October 2026)
We went through Pipedrive's knowledge base and found no feature that calculates, approves or pays commission. What exists are building blocks that can be combined into a simple calculation:
| Feature | What it does | Use for commission | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deal fields (value, owner, status, close date) | Standard fields on every deal | The basis: amount, rep and period | All plans |
| Custom fields | Your own numerical and monetary fields on the deal | Rate per deal, margin or discount | All plans |
| Formula fields | Calculate with numerical and monetary deal fields using +, -, *, /, brackets and % | Commission per deal | Premium or higher, up to ten per account |
| Insights reports | Reports that can be measured by a numerical or monetary field and viewed by user or date | Commission total per rep per month | Depends on plan |
| Goals | Targets for the count or value of won deals per user, team or company | Tracking quota | Team goals need Premium or higher |
| Export | Filtered lists to XLSX or CSV | A file for payroll | Admin or export permission |
| Marketplace | Third-party apps that connect to Pipedrive | Dedicated commission tools | Depends on the app |
The limits on formula fields matter. They only calculate on deals, they can only use numerical and monetary fields, and if any field in the formula is empty the formula returns no value and shows "not calculated". The knowledge base documents no conditional functions such as "if".
Step by step: flat-rate commission in Pipedrive
A flat commission rate on the deal value can be set up like this:
- Define the basis. Write down whether commission is paid on the deal value excluding VAT or on another field, that only won deals count, and whether the period is decided by the won date. These are the points that cause most disputes.
- Create a rate field. If reps have different rates, create a custom numerical field on the deal, such as "Commission rate". Always fill it in, or the formula will not calculate.
- Create the formula field. Add a new custom field of the type formula with a monetary output. Type # and pick the fields so the formula reads: #Value * #Commission rate / 100. If everyone has the same rate, say 8%, you can write #Value * 8 / 100.
- Choose which deals it applies to. Pipedrive asks whether the formula should apply to new deals or to new and open deals. Choose new and open if the current pipeline should also get a commission value.
- Build a report in Insights. Create a deal report, filter on won deals in the month you want, measure by the commission field and view by user. That is your monthly overview.
- Export and check. Filter the deal list the same way, pick the columns and export to XLSX. Check the numbers, move them to payroll and keep the file as documentation.
Example: three deals at 8%
Example: A rep wins three deals in October at an 8% rate.
| Deal | Value | Commission (8%) |
|---|---|---|
| Deal A | DKK 60,000 | DKK 4,800 |
| Deal B | DKK 95,000 | DKK 7,600 |
| Deal C | DKK 40,000 | DKK 3,200 |
| Total | DKK 195,000 | DKK 15,600 |
Variant: commission on gross margin
If you pay commission on margin rather than revenue, the formula field can handle that too, as long as the cost sits in a monetary field on the deal. Create a field such as "Cost" and use the formula (#Value - #Cost) * #Commission rate / 100. Example: A DKK 95,000 deal with a cost of DKK 60,000 gives a margin of DKK 35,000 and DKK 2,800 in commission at 8%. The cost field must always be filled in, or the formula will not calculate.
If the rep changes the value of a deal, Pipedrive recalculates the formula. That is handy until the deal has already been paid. Then you have two numbers and no trace of which one was paid.
Where Pipedrive commission tracking stops
A formula field can only see fields on the deal it sits on and has no logic beyond the four basic operations and percent. Anything that depends on other deals, on the period or on history has to live outside Pipedrive.
| Need | Why it is hard in Pipedrive | Typical workaround |
|---|---|---|
| Tiered commission across a period | The rate depends on the rep's total sales, and formula fields cannot sum across deals | A spreadsheet of the month's deals per rep |
| Tiers or minimums per deal | Formula fields have no documented "if" function | A manual rate field per deal |
| Accelerators above quota | Goals show attainment but calculate no payout | A spreadsheet next to the goals report |
| Split commission | A deal has one owner | Custom fields for the share and second rep, plus a spreadsheet |
| Clawbacks and corrections | The formula simply recalculates when the deal changes. There is no history of commission paid | Manual negative lines in next month's file |
| Draws | No balance carried forward | A separate sheet per rep |
| Approvals | No approval of commission statements | Export, email and a signature |
| Payroll export | The export is a deal list, not a payroll file with employee number and pay code | Reformatting in Excel every month |
| Rep visibility | Reps see fields on their own deals, but no single statement | A PDF or spreadsheet by email |
| Audit trail | The formula can be recalculated on open deals, and the plan itself has no versioning | Locked copies of each month's file |
A tiered example Pipedrive cannot calculate
Example: The plan pays 4% up to DKK 250,000 a month and 8% on everything above. A rep wins DKK 180,000 on the 8th and DKK 120,000 on the 22nd. The first deal earns DKK 7,200. The second has to be split: DKK 70,000 at 4% (DKK 2,800) and DKK 50,000 at 8% (DKK 4,000), DKK 6,800 in total. The month's commission is DKK 14,000. The formula field on the second deal cannot know that DKK 180,000 has already been sold, so it will give either 4% or 8% of the whole amount. Both are wrong.
If a customer later cancels, you also need a clawback at the rate that applied at the time. That requires someone to see what was paid and when.
Marketplace app or dedicated tool
The Pipedrive Marketplace has apps that read deals and calculate commission. When you assess them, check the same points as above: can the app calculate tiers across a period, split commission, claw back paid periods, send an approved file to your payroll system and show reps a statement? Also check where the data is stored and whether there is a data processing agreement.
Consider a dedicated tool when the plan has more than one component, when reps share deals, when you run corrections, or when someone spends days each month exporting and calculating.
Prowi reads deals, values, products, dates and owners from Pipedrive through the Prowi Pipedrive integration and calculates commission live according to your plan, including tiers, splits and clawbacks. Reps see their earnings in an app, and once the period is approved, one approved file goes to payroll. To see it on your own data, book a demo.
FAQ
Does Pipedrive have a native commission feature?
No. As of October 2026 we found no commission feature in Pipedrive's knowledge base. You can calculate a simple commission per deal with a formula field and total it in Insights, but approvals, payouts and corrections happen outside Pipedrive.
How do you calculate commission in Pipedrive?
Create a formula field with a monetary output, such as #Value * #Commission rate / 100, and make sure the rate field is always filled in. Then build an Insights report of won deals in the period, measured by the commission field and viewed by user.
Which Pipedrive plan includes formula fields?
Formula fields are available on Premium and higher plans, and each account can have up to ten. On lower plans, commission has to be calculated in a spreadsheet from an export.
Can Pipedrive calculate tiered commission or commission above quota?
Not directly. Formula fields only calculate on a single deal and have no documented conditional logic, so tiers across a period and accelerators need a spreadsheet or a tool outside Pipedrive.
Can you export commission from Pipedrive to payroll?
You can export a filtered deal list to XLSX or CSV if you are an admin or have export permission. The file is a deal list, so it usually has to be reformatted with employee numbers and pay codes before payroll can read it.
